Jury trial not available in respect of District Court prosecutions of dangerous driving or endangerment

High Court, in an application for judicial review concerning a pending criminal trial in the District Court: (a) refuses discovery and release of a digital audio recording (DAR) of an earlier hearing, on the grounds that neither of them would assist the applicant in establishing as right to a trial by jury of the pending charges; (b) refuses to order that the applicant was entitled to a trial by jury of a charge of dangerous driving, on the grounds that there was no such entitlement where such a charge was tried summarily; and (c) refuses to order that the applicant was entitled to a trial by jury of a charge of endangerment, on the grounds that, once the Director of Public Prosecutions had decided to prosecute the matter in the District Court, the accused had no right to elect for a jury trial.
