The High Court awarded a Garda member €64,800 for injuries sustained during a traumatic incident while on duty, including psychological distress and physical harm. The original incident occurred over four years ago and involved the Garda attempting to save a man's life. The court assessed the psychological impact, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and physical injuries such as a head wound and scar. The court applied the current Personal Injuries Guidelines from March 2021, acknowledging the plaintiff's ongoing psychological and physical challenges. The award included €35,000 for PTSD, €30,000 for the scar, €10,000 for hair damage, and €2,000 for headaches, with a one-third discount applied to the non-dominant injuries, resulting in a total of €63,000 for general damages, plus €1,800 in agreed special damages.
