Crown Court of Northern Ireland grants an application for a directed acquittal in relation to some of the 37 counts on the indictment having found the evidence to be weak and discredited.
Criminal – murder – possession of firearms or ammunition with intent to endanger life – application that there was no case to answer – UVF – warning in the case of an accomplice giving evidence for the prosecution – judge sitting alone – issues of credibility – unclear memory of witness – passage of time and the number of incidents that he may have been involved in could have flawed and confused his recollection of individual circumstance – uncertainty surrounding incident.
