Court of Appeal quashes sentence for manslaughter and substitutes a new longer custodial sentence, on the grounds that the original sentence failed to reflect the enormity of what had occurred in the taking of a human life in the circumstances and departed considerably from what would have been the appropriate sentence.
Offence: manslaughter
Original sentence: six years with one year suspended
Appeal by: prosecution (statutory application)
Outcome: sentence quashed and new sentence imposed of nine years
