Court of Appeal accedes to DPP's application to review sentence for attempted murder on grounds of undue leniency, finding that: (a) the sentence imposed, while obviously the product of great care and attention, did not meet adequately the enormity of the offending behaviour; and (b) the crime of attempted murder is, by definition, an offence of extreme seriousness and the elements of planning and premeditation meant that this offence was at the high end of the spectrum.
Offence: attempted murder (to which the respondent pleaded guilty)
Original sentence: 11 years, with review of sentence in January 2023
Appeal by: prosecution (statutory application), on the basis of the review date
Outcome: sentence found to be unduly lenient; parties invited to liaise in respect of re-sentencing
