The High Court, in a judicial review application concerning the accreditation regime for specialist doctors in Ireland, grants discovery of the applicant's specialist training records and employment details. The doctor, who obtained specialist registration through an alternative pathway, claims entitlement to a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training, arguing that the current dual certification system is impermissible under EU law. The court found that the doctor's training records were relevant and necessary for assessing the equivalence of his training to the Specialist Anaesthesiology Training Programme. The court held that these documents were pertinent to the doctor's claims of discrimination and breach of constitutional equality guarantees.
