The High Court has affirmed the divorce between the parties, modifying the financial orders made by the Circuit Court. The original decision, which included substantial lump sum payments and a safety order against the husband, was deemed excessive and not justified by the evidence. The High Court recognised the short duration of the marriage, the lack of matrimonial assets generated during the marriage, and the inheritances accounting for much of the husband's assets. The court directed the husband to pay a reduced lump sum to the wife, in addition to child maintenance payments and the creation of a trust fund for the child. The safety order granted by the Circuit Court was set aside due to insufficient evidence, and the court instead issued an injunction to prevent the husband from approaching the wife's property. The court also provided directions regarding the child's welfare and access, emphasising the need for both parents to engage civilly for the child's benefit.
